ACTIVITY-WRITING
  • Have students work in pairs. Using a T-Chart, have them decide how slime is like and different from gelatin or other gelatinous substances. Students may use available resources in classroom to assist them with their task. Collect and discuss as a whole class, creating a classroom chart from the individual ideas.
  • Have students use the chart to write persuasive paragraph or essay on why slime is or is not like gelatin or other substances.
  • Watch the movie Flubber. Have students write a compare/contrast paragraph pr essay about the Flubber in the movie and the slime they created with Edventure More!

ACTIVITY-DISCUSSION

Tell the class to imagine that all of the students in every class in the school were tightly packed into their classrooms with standing room only. All the doors and windows are closed. These rooms would be high pressure areas.

Now imagine that there is no one in the hall outside the classrooms. It is totally empty. The hall is a low pressure area.

If someone opened the door, where would the students want to go? Where does a high pressure want to go? (To a low pressure area.)

Discuss the occurrence at the doorway. Could the flow be slow and easy? Fast and furious?

Now imagine that some students in the hallway were moving from right to left, in a counterclockwise direction. If the students moved out of the classroom they were only allowed to exit by moving left to right, in a clockwise direction, what might happen? Discuss that how these occurrences show themselves (pile-ups = clouds, bumping/rubbing/friction = lightning etc.)

  • KINESTHETIC LEARNERS
    As you are discussing these weather patterns, act the motions out with the class.

  • WRITING
    Have students draw the weather patterns, labeling what happens as a high pressure area moves to a low pressure area. Write in their own words what happens and why we have clouds, lightning, hurricanes etc.
